  • Lowery A300 Holiday Classic

Hi All, I have the above mentioned organ purchased 2011,sold as color Cherry, can anyone tell me is the correct color Cherry or Cherry Fruitwood as I need to touch up a slight mark.

Good question, and I doubt if anyone here knows the answer. There is an active Facebook group for Lowrey organs and also this group: https://groups.io/g/lowreyforum/topics

There are members on both of these groups who were Lowrey dealers and they may know the answer. However as all touch up sticks/paints or whatever you use are not created equal you'll be doing a bit of trial and error. I'd suggest deliberately making a couple of small marks on the lower rear of the organ, where no-one will see them, and trying your touch up materials there. Once you've found the right one, touch up the marks at the rear and then move on to the one that's important to get right.

I can't get an exact over the counter match for my Roland, but it's near enough. My problem is that the finish is high gloss lacquer and some of the marks are beneath the outer layer of laquer.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

I have used artist oil paints mixed together in tiny quantities with a toothpick on a piece of cardboard. Burnt and raw sienna and burnt and raw umber give basic wood tones. Use a fine artist brush and test on an inconspicuous spot, perhaps under the bench lid. When in doubt, make it a bit darker. You can successfully build up dings in the clear finish with common clear nail polish in tiny drops. Do not use this like paint brushing. Think tiny drops from the end of a toothpick. However, you need to balance how much you wish to fuss, your level of patience, and the possibility that you could make it worse. You can probably do this, but you will probably not achieve factory perfection. These finishes are quite complex with stains, colored fillers, sanding sealers, and a variety of poly and lacquer finishes. Think of the physicians creed.

What are Lowrey like for theatre organ sounds?

Nowhere near as good as what you have, IMHO. It can make some good, theatre-ish sounds but doesn't have enough combinations or individual voices to do the job as well as the Roland.

On its own, and with the right registrations (and perhaps the right player) you'd be impressed. But if you put it next to the AT900P....!
