  • Kimball Temptation, Good or Bad?

I'm thinking I might get the organ pictured below and I was wondering if any of you guys had any thoughts. It's going to set me back about $50, which is a great price for the great condition it seems to be in. I haven't tested it out yet, but it is about a mile from my house and looks like it is in the best condition out of all low-priced organs in my area. I would like to play this kind of music on it which, based on similar models I found on YouTube, should sound good. I have a Toyota truck I should be able to get it into, but I am unsure if we would be able to. The owner said that two people could probably lift it, but I am in serious doubt of that, so if I am unable to move it, how much do you think movers would cost for the 1 mile traveling distance? And are there any things I should be aware of or look out for for this specific type of organ? I am not at all familiar with Kimball organs. Any comments or opinions on how I should move forward with the purchase (or if I should at all) would be much appreciated!!! 😊

If it's working 100%, then it will be fine for the kind of music you mention in your other posts. I had one for a few months, I didn't want it but took it to cover an unpaid debt. Flutes are nice and they blend well with the 'cascading strings'. Solo and percussion voices are OK for the era (1978). Rhythms are awful, to be honest, even for the era.

$50 is still too much, free would be the right price. They'll never sell it for $50, so make an offer! It will do while you're looking for something a bit further up the scale. Go try it, see what you think of the sound. Check every key, pedal, switch, knob and slider. Any problems, other than the odd scratchy contact, then walk away.

All that wood does make it a but heavy but two people can lift and shift it. That's how I got mine from the shop that owed me money to my home, and to the home of the guy I sold it to. I even got it on board a ship for a gig! Just one person at each end.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Thanks, that helps a lot! I'll definitely get them to lower the price based of off what you said and, if it meets all the tests you mentioned, it'll be a great starter instrument!
