Roland AT-80 Series? What's the difference?

    06-06-2019, 05:47 PM
I have a Roland AT-80S Atelier. I found someone who is selling an AT-80R. Can anybody tell me the difference? Just from looking at pictures, is seems the 80R has more stops. Is it worth it to exchange for the 80R? I looked online and cannot find a manual for ther AT-80R on the Roland Website. I am confused!!

    Joe,

The the AT-80S is newer than the AT-80R. The AT-80S has a touch screen and the AT-80R just has a 2 line LCD display. This would explain more physical buttons on the 80R. However, the 80S will have more sounds and styles.

The order (oldest to newest) in which the AT-80 series occurred is: AT-80, AT-80R, AT-80S, AT-80SL, AT-80SL "American Classic", and finally the AT-800. You can see the dates they were introduced in the first post of this thread.

    I hope that helps.

Allen is quite right, Joe. You don't want to go backwards to an earlier organ! The 80S is a different beastie, with a lot more in sounds and styles, as well as being much easier to drive, thanks to the touch screen. If you should ever want to upgrade, look for an AT800 that's had the Platinum upgrade installed.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
