Organ Virgin: Yamaha E-50 on Craigslist is this organ good or bad?
I am monitoring Craigslist for used organs as I want Pipe Organing sounding Organ consoles with no "One Man Band" stuff. on Craigstlist a Yamaha E-50 for $100 just popped up. Can you guys tell me about it? I am brand new to the organ market (first organ)

Buy it. Good deal.

I live in Vancouver and
have the E-70. The E-50 is similar, but has slightly less of the
"CS-80" type voice presets. The good thing is that it has dual
61-note keyboards. The E-70 does have one-man-band stuff.
But you can turn it off. Because of the PASS technology, it does
cover PIPE ORGAN type of sounds. They will be different of
course, but certainly for that price you can not go wrong.

The E50 isn't a bad Yamaha organ, but I have to disagree with Flametopfred over what it offers.

I knew the organ well when it was new, and have just double checked the spec to make sure I've remembered correctly. It has absolutely no pipe organ sounds at all. Thereareorgan sounds, but these are 'entertainment organ' type flutes. Nice enough, but not reallylike pipes. You can fake things to an extent, but not that far. And the E50 does feature lots of the one-man-band stuff - auto rhythms, accompaniments, auto arpeggios and so on.

If you want a console organ to practice on or start to learn on - one that can make some basic organ sounds - then grab it for the $100 like FTF has said. It is a bargain at that price if it's fully working. But just don't expect it to soundpipe like. It won't.

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
