Not as far as I'm aware, Skippy.

The modular idea was tried, by Thomas amongst others. Never really caught on over here and people went for the first spec they wanted, kept the organ, then traded up as usual.

As for the controller/module system. I can do that now, but to really get what I want means that I have to carry on with my 'virtual' organ project. Sampling the sounds I need/want when I can and then (eventually) editing them and putting them into Kontakt 2 or Kompakt for playback.

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

      Thanks Andy,

Looking at what useless features were provided on someorgans in the past -just for the sake of getting sales; this feature would have made some sense. The key return springs can be easily mounted on an adjustable bar. Of course, recreating piano action is not as simple as this.

Do youknow ifthis option has ever been discussed by organdesigners?

      Have a musical day,

        Re: Adjustable key action?

Well, as far as that goes, Allen had that feature on nearly every organ they made. It's seems to me that the church organ companies in general, usually provided this kind of customization ability.

Re: Adjustable key action? + A little off topic

As far as I know (which isn't a lot) many of the electronic pianos and clavinovas are adjustable as to key pressure, from heavy to light. Whether they have velocity or midi for that matter is another issue. Let me go a little off topic, please:

Really the keyboard and midi interface is the simplest part. The stoptab or drawknob control and cabinet are the big issues. Plus the system to make it all work together.

And there is little uniformity. For instance many stoptab rails are midi coded according to location: the left end would be midi #1 and so on. Allen, on the other hand encodes according to function so for instance Diapason 8 is always coded the same way regardless of location or model. This means a sequencer can control the stoptabs and swell control as well as play the instrument on any late model Allen organ. It doesn't have to know where the stoptab is located. That scheme introduces quite a bit of additional complexity to the midi coding and causeslatency problems for some. It also causes problems for some like me that want to decode the data to control pipe or haupwerk ranks.

The springs on my Allen are adjustable so I guess you could go through and adjust the touch but to make it like a tracker would require a special keyboard.

            Thanks Guys,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

So it looks like some electronic church organs provide this feature. It does surprise me that some of the premium console home organsdon't have it. I have about9 keyboard instruments (Lowrey, Thomas, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Hammond, Casio, 2xYamaha, Farfisa, Conn andRoland)in my collection. All differ in their key action. The Hammond Elegante ismy favourite.

My vision for the future is that when you go out shopping to equip yourself for the keyboard experience you firstly select and purchase the KEYBOARD. Just a controller keyboard that suits your needs as far as key action, programmability and button function allocation is concerned. This keyboard could be your companion for most of your life. Who knows, they may just be touch keys with no action at all. Hard to believe that this would be playable.

Andthen you pick the ARRANGERS, EXPANDERS, SOUND MODULES or whatever their name is or was to connect to it. They may already be part of a package coming with your home entertainment computer. Select the analog ordigital organ of your choiceand arrange and layeryour registration via a horseshoe surround touch screen in line with the original stop layout. Then let a surround soundsystem take care of the representation by choosing Leslie’s and venues. Of course all data/signal transfer would be wireless.

Anyway, all this is possible right now. Will it ever happen? I don’t think so. Just not enough customers tomake it viable.
