G'day Shaun,

Wyvern is a British brand dealing I believe, exclusively in church instruments. I also believe that at one time there was a connection between the Wyvern and another woeful British instrument, Burge. Apart from having no pedals, the organ you are talking about reeks of a Burge I had the misfortune of having to play occasionally in the very early '70's in a Methodist church in Melbourne.

Wyverns haven't beenseen in Oz for decades now, and I'm pretty sure the guy in Melbourne that imported them has since passed on. Should the instrument you're looking at need any product specific bits your chances of finding any in this country are buckley's & none.

The tremolo you mention is probably a "tremulant" created electronically, and are you sure the organ has no pedals, or are they just missing.

While the price is right, because that's all it's worth, an instrument like this smells of hassles if not now, certainly down the track.

      Cheers,

        Re: Organ For Giveaway

Interesting that a church organ company would choose for their name a mythological beast associated with satan. I wonder what that is all about :-) No problem playing the devil's music on this baby. Rock On!

If you ARE on the search for another organ, you'll be surprised how many churches in Australia and New Zealand have stopped using theirs and haven't gotten around to ebay yet!

I found my hammond C3 at such a place, a small Baptist we used to live near (and attended) in the 70's, when I was small. My dear ol' Dad suggested I should ask 'em about their organ, and behold, it hadn't been used in 5 years!

Kon Zissis said he found his in a similar fashion.

Imagine what a bit of cold calling could turn up!!!

A GARAGE full of the beauties, I'm sure!

Hellow All, an update. I went to visit the church where the organ is located and was able to have a look at it. It has no pedals 2 61 note manuals and a seperate speaker. It has plenty of problems with it The upper manual sounds when there are no stops drawn. static and crackles from the speaker as well. Apart from that it has a nice sound to it. I think that it would be too much of a headache to try and repair so I am not going to look at this organ any further.

                Hmmm...

But then, this separate speaker could be useful to you... an organ amp is an amp which may be handy regardless of its source.....

                  Hi!

I was fortunate enough to be able to buy a couple of manuals from a Wyvern of this vintage and they are super. Silver contact wires which are easily adjustable to speak at the depth you want, a lighter touch which enables fluidity of playing and makes glissandos much more comfortable if ever you want to do such a thing. I mounted them in oak cheek blocks and converted a 3 manual console to 5.

Wired up to a 61x1 MIDI interface board, this could give you a good start for Hauptwerk or any other virtual organ.

                  Best wishes

                  David P

                    Sounds brilliant.

Go on, reconsider! Hammerwood can talk you through the process!

Remember, being an organ nut, you have to do obsessive compulsive things like this!

Just think of what you'll learn and the fun you'll have!

It Sounds interesting because I am into miditzer but I have one obstacle to get over I have no room for it and the wife would have kittens if I came home with yet another organ.

                        And kittens scratch furniture.

Just like kittens, a home needs to be found for every unwanted organ.

And there is no RSPCO, more organs are being trashed over the holiday period every year because they are no longer asessential or trendyas they once were.

Where can this organ go? The dump is a place where organs learn bad habits from other derelicts on death row. The streets won't be safe with a street savvy wyvern on the loose.

                        What can we do?
