  • Leslie 122 woofer

    Hi,

does anybody know what kind of woofer this is? You can see on the picture the numbers
043828 and 328004. From the code 328 it seems to be a Utah speaker, but what model?
I am also wondering if this is a good woofer for my 122 ? As you can see it measures a
dc resistance of 8,8 Ohms. Can this really be a 16 Ohm speaker? It would expect something
    like 11 Ohm or so....

    Hello,

This speaker is Utah 043828 15″ 16 ohm used on Leslie 147.
    Because 122 and 147 have the same cross-over (3.2mH 7µ8 5.2mH 12µ5) there is no problem.

I will not bore you with impedance and resistance considerations.
But Impedance is gived at 1000Hz and Alway Impedance > Resistance.

This is a stock Leslie/Utah woofer made in the 4th week of 1970.

These have a very heavy-duty voice coil which accounts for the low DC resistance. This question of the unusually low DC Ohms reading of these woofers has come up before. Your reading is correct and normal. It is a 16Ω speaker.

This and the Jensen C15L were the two woofers used in Leslie speakers with tube amps from the late 60s through the end of production.

Thanks for your answers. I always thought Jensen were the only speakers used in vintage Leslies.
