  • European Leslie Model 16

After finishing the refurbishing of a German-made Leslie Model 16, I thought I'd post what I found for anyone needing to know about one.

This is a 1969 cabinet, and it was apparently assembled by Hohner in Germany using parts from Leslie in the USA, but with their own take on certain details. Everything is made for 230V/50Hz, including the motors and the interface box relay and pilot lamp.

The motors use the same hardware as any US Leslie motor stack, but the cabinet design is slightly different from the US model. Instead of the long machine screws found on the US version to hold the back on, the speaker baffle is held in place independently with t-nuts, and the back panel is attached to wooden cleats, two of which have to be removed to remove the speaker baffle. All t-nuts and a few other fasteners are M4 metric. The 10" speaker looks to be European and has no manufacturer's marks on it.
