  • 130 to 147 conversion?

Hey everybody, this is my first post and I'm happy to be here. Someone in my area is considering selling a model 130 Leslie that I would like to convert into a 147. Does anyone think this is even a realistic idea, or would it just be way too much work? Can I simply swap out the higher speaker with a horn driver and build a shelf for the rotor and motors? Any other ideas would be very appreciated since I know this is a Longshot so thank you in advance.

Take it for free. Do not go down the modification rabbit hole, especially with a decorator type cloth-covered front cabinet like this one.

Your money is better spent on a dual rotor (horn type) Leslie, unless you live in a part of the world where Leslie speakers are extremely rare. That is just my opinion.

If you mean "convert it to a dual rotor style" the answer is yes. Lots of people have added upper rotors to single rotor Leslies....myself included. If it's cheap enough, in good shape and you're up for the project, go for it. The 130 isn't a bad Leslie and an upper rotor would really wake it up. Do you have a way to make the 11 pin connection work for you?

Like muckleroy said, if you find a real 147 or 145 to restore, you'll have less work to do and you'll have something that actually has resale value at some point.

Few people want to buy a DIY Leslie.
