I just got a used Motion Sound KBR3d. Sounded great on 1 gig now the horn is scraping something intermittently. When it scrapes the horn stops. How do I remove that section? Rear screws are out and the plastic guid at the top for the pole is out. Do I go in from the front?

Ok I got it out. Both handles have to come out. There are 12 bolts that go up from the speaker area into the amp/motor assembly. Plus I had to take out one of the speakers. The belt obviously bad but I think that was caused but the rotor. It has too much play and rubs on the 2 big mounting bolts. To keep you all posted on this fabulous thread. After playing with it for an hour I think it fine. So I ordered a belt ($20!). Could It be that the spindle floats up as it gains speed? We'll find out soon. Thanks.Comment

Yes the new belt seems to have fixed it. Note: The spinning horn assembly apparently has to be ALL bolted in to align it. Once I got every last screw in, it quieted down. No more rubbing.Comment

Just now saw this thread. I too have a KBR3D. Have had it since 2003 and love it. Bought it at the old Musician's Friend Outlet store in KC Mo. When I ordered a new horn driver for it a few years later I was told mine was one of the very earliest serial numbers and the horn was sent N/C because they'd had problems with them in that serial number range. Pretty good customer service if you ask me.
As for disassembly...yes, it's a nightmare. I think I counted 36 screws needing to come out to remove the amp. I drilled strategically located holes in the top of the cabinet directly over the trim pots that adjust the rotor rise/fall speeds and hi/low rpms then snapped plastic plugs in them. Over the tube I cut a larger hole and made a cover out of a piece of black pickguard material.
Correct...it doesn't take much at all to stop the horn. That's a TINY belt. One tip that I'll pass on...on two separate occasions after mine had sat unused for a few months the horn wouldn't start. Even if you took off the top plate and spun it manually, it wouldn't keep running. I called customer service and they said to turn the trimpot that adjusts the horn slightly one way or the other. Sure enough it worked. Horn took right off. That's what prompted the holes to be drilled for easy access. I fooled around with the pots until I have it just exactly as I like it. The lower simulator part speeds up and slows down more slowly than the horn so it mimics a real Leslie.

Thing 1: I can't figure out how to get notified from Organ Forum when I get a response! I'm sorry. Thing 2: The KBR sounded awesome on one job then it started the rubbing sound again. A loud squeak. Is there a lubrication procedure for this model? I read one quick comment somewhere to replace the 0-rings in the horn motor.
I really want to use this. Lighter then my Studio 12 and more useful because I use a Nord piano along with my XK1. Thanks for encouraging me. LOL!

Still on this. Motion Sound told me how to get the horn off. It is supposed to pull off with a little effort but mine was stuck solid. There are 7 o-rings in this 3 small ones looked OK the 2 large ones very dry and cracked, the medium ones were fused to the plastic horn housing. Grainger has them on order for me now.

Fixed! Basically I replaced all 7 o-rings in the same positions except instead of 3 small ones at the top, I put 2 smalls at the top and one small at the bottom. Drilled 3 new holes to preposition the plastic top support. Taking it to a long gig tomorrow night.Comment
