  • Hammond L122s to Leslie 142

    Hi, experts!
I am new to classic Hammonds (always used the digital ones) and have recently come across a Hammond L122s and a Leslie 142. I have googled like a madman but can't find an answer on how to do this:
Since I have other keyboards (Rhodes, Yamaha CP4, Hammond XK1-C) I would like to convert the 142 to be able to use a jack plug (6mm, tele in swedish.)
I've found a technician willing to try - they are rare here in Sweden - but we are both in the need of advice:
Can the L122s be converted to jack connector output instead of the internal speaker? And can the Leslie be converted to preferably two inputs? Do I need a box of some kind? Please advice.
English is not my first language, if something I wrote is unclear, please let me know.
    /Magnus

What you're trying to do is complicated. Since you have an SK1 which has a 1/4" output, the easiest thing would be to get a preamp pedal made for a 122 amp and Trek makes them but they are not without cost.

Even if you figure out a way to tap into the 142's amp, you will still need some type of preamp to properly gain stage the amp which could be in the form of a mixer.

Using a mixer to go into a preamp combo pedal would get all your other boards connected to the Leslie with easy access to the rotor switch as a foot switch but as far as the L122, unless you use an RCA out from the L122 and go into suggested mixer/combo preamp to join the rest of your keyboards to use the single 142, at some differences in tone vs going straight to Leslie through a Leslie cable, will you be able to get everything to go through the 142.

Somewhere you have to make a concession.

But having a tech mess with the electronics of your Leslie amp, unless he/she really knows Leslie amps, I would caution destroying the amp and its resale value keeping in mind that the idea of custodianship of these instruments and after we're gone, any mods that we might make to these instruments now will be a nightmare for the future custodians of this gear trying to figure out what modifications were made and how to undo them.

You have much invested in fine instruments, to take a shortcut with a 1/4" input hole in your Leslie amp is not a best use of your equipment and you will need gain and EQ control over all those keyboards. A single input into your Leslie amp is hit and miss and you will not get proper interface unless you use good interfaces.
