  • Leslie identification request

Hey Everyone, I hope everyone is doing well.
What Leslie is this? Owner says there is no ID Badge on the back.
Looks like a 720 to me.
    What do you all think?
    Thank You in advance

Looks like a 720 cabinet style but the insides look different. Here is a 720:

A little digging and it looks like it's a 520.

Yes, the 520 was offered as a 'leslie' for organs that had two channel electronic tremolos, or as a matching 'straight' cabinet for the 720 - for organs with a leslie channel and multiple straight channels. Rare-ish beastie, not sure that I've ever come across one in the flesh.

Actually that would be a great reverb return or even use it for a "chorus channel

Nice idea! 520 needs a hot input at speaker level IIRC so a bit of signal boosting would be needed.

Never seen one in uk, and seen lots of leslies.

Appears to be a stationary model.
Bypass the amp, feed it the speaker signal from a Marshall and go full Jon Lord style
            Current:
1971 T-202 with Carsten Meyer mods: Remove key click filters, single-trigger percussion, UM 16' drawbar volume correction. Lower Manual bass foldback.
Korg CX3 (original 1980's analogue model).
1967 Leslie 122 with custom inbuilt preamp on back panel for 1/4" line-level inputs, bass & treble controls. Horn diffusers intact.
2009 Marshall 2061x HW Plexi head into Marshall 4x12 cabinet.

            Former:
            1964 C3
            196x M-102
            197x X5
            197x Leslie 825

Ok, so I have some basic questions.
The owner doesnt know anything about this Leslie and I want to know more before/if I go look at it.
              (Sort of a long drive)
1.Does it have the standard upper horn/jensen driver config?
2.Does it have the older Baffle directly under the 15 " speaker?

No and no. As I said in post #4 in the thread, it's a Leslie 520 and has NO ROTORS! It is just a two channel straight amp for organs with electronic tremolo. Left and right channels look to have two speakers each (probably 8" or 6x9") with all bass diverted to the 15" woofer.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Pleased to help! All OK here, thanks. If you can find the 720, same style of cabinet, that does have the treble horns and a woofer above a drum. It tends to get a bit overlooked as people tend to search for 122s and 147s, but it's a cracking leslie.

Are the 6x9" drivers wired for Stereo?
If not, you could easily bypass the internal amp, feed the top speakers by an external stereo amp and run a Mini Vent II through it - nobody will ever know it's not a real Leslie

That should work, but you'd need a crossover that commoned the bass from each channel and sent it to the woofer. I'm sure such a crossover will be found in the 520's amp system.

yeah - looks like it's a 2.1 system by design, so there should be a way of feeding it a stereo signal, and let the existing innards do the rest.
Instant fake rotary Leslie inside a genuine Leslie cab.
This could be a sign of things to come, in the distant future when the original Leslies become too costly to maintain, or parts become impossible to obtain, simply replace the innards of your defunct 122 with the latest rotary sim and a high-powered stereo amp. Nobody will be able to tell the difference, and you retain the benefits and nuances of a real Leslie cab and louvres.
