  • Leslie 722HL Mercotac socket removal from the spindle help

I have a Leslie 722. In removing the Mercotac switch, I broke the center contact pin inside the spindle.

Has anyone had experience in removing the Mercotac socket from the spindle? Is it threaded or pressed in? It doesn't seem to want to move. I don't want to put too much pressure on the spindle and socket and ruin both.

Tone Wheel General Hospital stocks replacement Mecotac sockets. By the picture of it, it looks like it has ridges on it which would indicate that it is pressed on.

    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the response...Just to clarify what we are both talking about...I need to replace the merc socket itself that is on the end of the pulley/spindle assembly. Then the mercotac "plugs" into that socket. I know that the merc itself just pulls out. If the socket itself just pulls out, it must really be in there. If it won't come out, I suppose I could very carefully drill it out on my drill press and then order the replacement socket from Tonewheel General Hospital.

      Thanks

If interested.. I just parted a 722HL. The Merc and was intact. Message if you like.
I rebuild Hammonds and Leslies. Please visit my website. tbstonewheels.com It's still in the works but is up and running. My personal setup is a Model A # 2203 with Trek II percussion, 122RV and 2 31h's. One is fitted with two speed motors and the other a Hamptone. Also sporting a working Vibratone 30A # 326.

I changed mine in a 815, which I believe is a almost identical Leslie. I could not putt it off so I decided to buy a new contact altogether. A local dealer had one, but they are somewhat pricey. I paid around 400 DKK (I believe this is about 70 USD), and replaced the whole thing. The new one was pulled off as it arrived, so I realized that it was just a pull hard thing on the old one. After replacing the contact I managed to pull the old one apart (since I did not need it anymore, I dared to pull really hard!) and it came of.

It is just a pull hard thing, but I would recommend replacing it, since it is a weakspot of these leslies I think.
