  • Prozor midi to usb doesn’t work with Orla Grande organ

Bought cheapish usb midi interface hoping to run hauptwerk from my organ but it’s not working.

I thought it was a dud device to start only the red power light was showing. So I tried connecting to pa900 and it works fine on that instrument.

Using midi in to device connecting 5 pin din to midi out of organ, played around with various settings on organ try slave/master and settings on midi but no joy.

Is midi truly cross device compatible? I can use the organ to control the pa900 so I know the midi out in organ is working.

    Thanks
Have owned more instruments in the last fourty years than I can count on my fingers AND toes.

Probably an incompatibility somewhere, plus it’s usually hit or miss with the cheap Midi interfaces as to whether they work well or not with a particular instrument. (Better to spend a bit more and get a decent one)

There are a lot of complaints about inexpensive MIDI interface cables on the Hauptwerk forum. Still, the unit may work, especially if it worked to connect your Korg PA900 to a computer. Does Hauptwerk see the interface? It has to be plugged in to a USB port on the computer prior to starting HW. There is an initial HW screen that will show you the available MIDI inputs. If you don't see it go to General Preferences->MIDI ports. The box should be checked (ticked) nest to the Prozor interface. The MIDI In connector plugs into MIDI Out on the organ but you can try the MIDI Out connector without risking any damage to the organ or the device.

It is my understanding that the Prozor is Windows USB audio compliant and will not require any additional windows driver. The Prozor device should show up along with other printers and devices in Control Panel.

Also, you may need to restart your PC. Windows has an annoying habit of "finding" or not finding USB devices on the same port, and after any restart, you may need to tell Hauptwerk to go find it again. For this reason, I have everything plugged into a powered external USB port on my laptop.

If it's one of these Chinese ones - available with umpteen different names and in loads of lovely colours - consign it to the bin and get a Roland UM-One MkII. I foolishly bought one of these cr*p units and it was hit and miss, depending on what it was connecting to - usually miss.

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

All right, I confesses... I actually do use a Roland UM-One Mk. 2. Andy told me the same thing.

Thanks guys, I’ve given up with this device, it is indeed as per andy’s Photo, so instead of pulling any hair out I’ll put this on hold and look into trying out the Roland UM thingamy bob thanks.
