  • Conn 653 noise

Got a Conn 653 that when the green tabs are pressed, makes random noise.
Also when the 8 capture pistons are pressed (the presets), 6 of them make a rushing noise
which changes tone with the ABC buttons.
Client says this started happening after the organ was moved.
Could this be the dreaded "Bad solder joint" issue?
Still trying to locate a service manual for the 653.

Yes, most likely bad solder joints. The 653 service manual is almost worthless. It has schematics, that almost look hand drawn, for the individual boards but no overall connection diagrams. There is a point to point info booklet with charts listing the interconnects but is time consuming and a pain to use. Some components have Kimball part numbers and others have Conn numbers.

Where do you think, on the tabs and presets? I have worked on many older Conn's but this 653 is new to me.

Basically it's all the pins that the white plastic plugs attach to including the keyer daughter board connections. Reflow the solder on them.
Start with the keyer mothere boards and power supply. There should be board location diagrams inside the console.
