  • Allen Theatre 2 Manual organ

So I'm looking to buy an organ, it's an Allen 2 manual theater organ with external speakers and a full pedal set. At it is, it will not go into desired room from hallway standing up right. I have heard of organs having some very fragile or even fluid filled parts inside. So I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be safe to put this organ on it's side to get it into the room, or if that would cause internal problems. I know wiring could be a potential issue, but otherwise? Thanks for any help. If you can point to a forum that discusses this specific topic in depth or any info about this organ, that would be great

It shouldn't be a problem Just make sure that all the parts inside the organ are secure for example, the power supplies, amps, etc. Also make sure the keyboards are secured. Make sure there are no loose screws or anything else like that in the back of the organ that can roll around.

Is this organ digital or analog? If the theatre organ has a rotating speaker, you may want to secure that, depending on which position you plan to use. Allens are built like a tank, but on older organs (before digital) there may be things that can be out-of-alignment when you get it back on its feet.

Way too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:
      • MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DK / ADC-5400 / ADC-6000 (Symphony) / ADC-8000DKC
      • Lowrey Heritage (DSO-1)
      • 11 Pump Organs, 1 Pipe Organ & 7 Pianos

Good point, I was thinking more modern digital.

You'd have to go back a long way to find an Allen with a built in rotary speaker. Some in the 50s and 60s had a 'Gyrophonic Projector' and I think some of the smaller theatre spinets may have had a Leslie unit. But you mention external cabinets so there are probably no speakers in the console to worry about. And definitely no fluids inside - that would probably be oil in a old Hammond!

As has been said, Allens are solidly built, so I very much doubt if you'll have the slightest problem, whether the organ is digital (post 1970-ish) or analogue. So up-end it, install it and enjoy!
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
