Folks:
I am doing a minor rehab of a Conn 651. Did a separate post on repair of pistons.
Here are a few other minor items... nothing a deal-killer, but I would be interested to know if anyone has encountered these and any fixes.
1. "Ghost in complex non-tibia speaker". Here's real strange one. When I first turn on the organ, the non-tibia speaker emits a sound like a cymbal at a distanace... not the crash, but the dying away sound. This sound dies away within about 3-4 seconds. Now here's the oddity. If I rub the main wooden cabinet, it emits the same sound. When I quit rubbing the cabinet, the sound dies away. My wife and I refer to this as the ghost of the 651. I know, the simple solution is, "Don't rub the cabinet!" But I have learned lots of valuable things from your organ folks, so thought I would pose this one as well.
2. The 651 has a tremolo kill piston that works only for the solo manual. When this piston is activated, if I hit one key on the solo manual, there is no tremolo. If I hit a second, while keeping the first down, there is a slight tremolo. If I hit a third while the others are down, I get full tremolo. Is there a simple fix for this?
3. Solo keyboard, again. There are a couple of stops for which the voices seem to be very low volume... specifically the Orch Oboe 8' and Tuba 8'. It may be that these are intentionally voiced very softly, but again, I wnated to see if anyone has experiences that might help me get this Conn back to near perfection.
Thanks to all who chime in with tips.
Eric
