  • Live Stream 2021 Bach Week Festival - First Concert Sunday, May 16

This notice is for the May 16th concert. I'll create another event for the Friday, May 21 concert. Go to their web page here: https://bachweek.org/2021-festival for the actual link to the stream and the link to donate, if you so choose. The streams are free.

I used to attend these decades ago when I was in the Chicago area. At that time, they were held at St. Luke's in Evanston where Richard Webster was music director and organist. St. Luke's has an intact, original E. M. Skinner,4 manual, opus 327 installed in 1922. It was thoroughly restored in the 1990's. Unfortunately, that instrument will not be heard in these concerts.

HOWEVER, the Bach Week Festival venue moved from St. Luke's to the Music Institute of Chicago (also located in Evanston). The building was the former First Church of Christ, Scientist church and it's former sanctuary is now the school's Nichols Concert Hall. The hall contains an intact, original E. M. Skinner, 3 manual, opus 208 installed in 1914. It was also completely restore. This organ will be heard at the Friday concert. Can an original Skinner do Bach? Absolutely!! Webster will open with Toccata in F Major, BWV 540

The organ for the Sunday concert is at Boston's Trinity Church, where Webster is currently music director and organist. I'm not familiar with the organs there nor which (or both) will be used for the concert.
