Bradley Welch is playing a concert on the 2006 Klais instrument at First Methodist Church of Richardson, Texas at 1830 (6:30pm) Sunday, 22 Feb 2009. This concert is free (I am the Underwriter). Bradley is a well-known concert organist and a great musician. We would like to see a lot of folks at the concert, so if you are in the area, please plan to come.
The concert by Bradley Welch on our Klais instrument was a big success Sunday night. I estimated about 400-500 in attendance, which is a good audience for our concert series. I had been identified at the beginning as the Underwriter of the concert (which is why it was free) and TexDW76 from this forum came by afterward to identify himself as a member who had seen my announcement and decided to come. I was very pleased with the performance and with the way the organ was presented--Bradley did demonstrate many of its fine solo voices in his registrations. I will post a list of the pieces performed later.
I promised that I would post the selection Bradley Hunter Welch played on our Klais on Sunday, 22 Feb 2009:
Prelude and Fugue in D Major, BWV 532--J. S. Bach
Sonata I in F Minor, Opus 65--Felix Mendelssohn (Allegro moderato e serioso; Adagio; Andante recitativa; Allego assai vivace)
Organ Hymn--Raymond Haan
Prelude and Fugue on B-A-C-H--Franz Liszt
Rubrics: A Liturgical Suite for Organ--Dan Locklair (III. "...and thanksgivings may follow"; IV. "The Peace may be exchanged"; V. "The people respond--Amen!"
Three Hymn Settings
What a Friend We Have in Jesus (UMH 526)--James Pethel
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty (UMH 139)--J. S. Bach
Amazing Grace (UMH 378)--Frederick Swann
Three Movements from the Organ Symphonies--Charles Marie Widor
Marche Pontificale from Symphony I in C, Opus 13
Andante sostenuto from Symphonie Gothique, Opus 70
Toccata from Symphony V in F, Opus 42
The last piece (Widor's famous Toccata) was included by request from our church organist, and Bradley played it brilliantly. Unfortunately, no sound recordings of that concert were made.
