  • page number under the title of the last post in a topic?

With the old forum, you had the subforums and then on each subforum the list of threads with for each thread the title of the last post, who made it when, and little squares with the page numbers you could click.

I sorely miss this functionality. Now you get the thread listed, click on a thread and always end up on the first page. Even if there are 20 later pages. So yo then need to click again and wait a long time. Also means you need to go back a page more when finished reading. It looks like this version forces you to read the forum with the latest posts first. But I do not like it that way.

Is there a way to get those page numbers back?

Every other forum I visit has those. I must say I was enthousiast the first visit, but it is slowly starting to irritate me. Having less and less appeal to me: very slow, can't hide sections I never go to, harder to navigate. What next?

I raised this and Admin advised me that posts were displayed in chronological order with no option to change it. I agree with you that this is very inconvenient. It was so much better when you could opt for newest post first.

I really hate it with newest post first. So I like it as it is with oldest post first. But it makes no sense if you cannot navigate it easily.

But being able how you want to view it would be much better. It really feels like apple-itis: "this is the way you shall use it because we know better than you". Sorry, you don't.

I'm not sure what you want, but you can still order Topics and Posts in the chronological order of your choice. The viewing order is established by the Posts and Latest Activity tabs at the top of the list.
          See photos.

You can set which one is selected by default in your user settings. When viewing Latest Activity, the first post in the thread is always displayed at the top of the list to establish context with the replies shown in reverse chronological order.

Another way of reading in reverse chronological order is to jump to the last post in the thread by clicking the arrow in the thread list. See photo.

That explanation has given me all I want, thank you. I had failed to appreciate the function of the tabs/button to which you refer. I'm sure I'll get used to the first post in the thread always being displayed at the top.

Ok, same as RogerM, that arrow makes a real difference. Sadly it isn't clear that this is clickable or what it does. For me that is a good alternative.

It and a similar arrow that jumps to the first post are not new in topic listing. They were present in the previous version as well. Hovering over any graphic element on the Forum will display it's function.
