  • How To Reply With Quotes

It's often useful to quote one or more posts when replying to a topic. The Forum provides a simple and convenient way of doing so.

    Reply With A Single Quote
    1. Click the Quote button in the toolbar immediately below the post you wish to quote.Click image for larger version Name:	Quote.png Views:	0 Size:	8.7 KB ID:	648902
    2. This will cause the post to be inserted in the Reply editor. The screen will automatically scroll to editor where the post will be visible and ready for you to enter your reply.
Click image for larger version Name:	SingleQuote.png Views:	0 Size:	69.8 KB ID:	648904
When the reply is saved the quote will appear like this in your reply. Click image for larger version Name:	QuotedReply.png Views:	0 Size:	52.4 KB ID:	648903

    Reply With Multiple Quotes
    1. Click the Quote button in the toolbar immediately below the post you wish to quote as above.
    2. As before this will cause the post to be inserted in the Reply editor. The screen will automatically scroll to the editor where the post will be visible and ready for you to enter your reply.
    3. Next click the Quote button in other posts in the topic you wish to quote. This time, the Quote button will illuminate to show it as selected.
Click image for larger version Name:	ActiveQuote.png Views:	0 Size:	10.4 KB ID:	648905
    1. If you wish to deselect that quote, just click on the button again.
    2. Repeat selecting as many posts as you wish in the topic. Note that you can select posts on any page in the topic.
    3. As you select each post for quotation, the Post Reply button in the floating toolbar at the top of the page will indicate the number posts selected for quotation. Click image for larger version Name:	MultiQuoteReply.png Views:	0 Size:	19.9 KB ID:	648906
    4. Once you've finished selecting your posts for quoting, click the Post Reply button in the floating tool bar. You'll be scrolled to the Reply editor where you can enter your reply.
    Splitting and Editing Your Quote
You should limit the content of your quote to no more than a few lines as lengthy quotes are rarely useful and make it difficult for users on mobile devices. If for some reason you feel it necessary to include the lengthy contents of an entire post in your reply, insert a link to the post instead.

For example, inserted quotes appear in this format in the editor:
[QUOTE]OK, maybe I'm too old but this function eludes me. I'm sure it's been asked before..... How does one extract a sentence from a paragraph and have it appear in the balloon highlight? I asked others here but they did not know either.[/QUOTE]

and display like this when posted:

OK, maybe I'm too old but this function eludes me. I'm sure it's been asked before..... How does one extract a sentence from a paragraph and have it appear in the balloon highlight? I asked others here but they did not know either.
Edit the text between the [QUOTE][/QUOTE] tags
[QUOTE]How does one extract a sentence from a paragraph and have it appear in the balloon highlight? [/QUOTE]

How does one extract a sentence from a paragraph and have it appear in the balloon highlight?
The mechanism for creating quotes are BBCode tags. The pattern for enclosing comments in the quote box is [QUOTE]content[/QUOTE]
Knowing this, you can then copy the inserted bbcode block multiple times and split the quote up. For example entering this in the editor:

[QUOTE]OK, maybe I'm to old but this function eludes me.[/QUOTE]

    No, you're never too old.

[QUOTE] How does one extract a sentence from a paragraph and have it appear in the balloon highlight? [/QUOTE]
    Now you know.

[QUOTE] I asked others here but they did not know either.[/QUOTE]
They can now come to you for the answer!

    Displays as
OK, maybe I'm to old but this function eludes me.
    No, you're never too old.
