  • Issues with New Posts link and search

This is probably more user error than anything, but I'm just not sure what to do about it.
The New Posts link has been leaving me at a blank page about 60% of the time.

It doesn't ever load and refreshing the page doesn't change anything. It used to sometimes work if I clicked around the forum a few times and then tried the New Posts link again. Today, that hasn't been the case.
Sometimes, I get a similar page when trying to use the forum search.

So far, I have tried clearing the cache and cookies for the site. Let me know if there is anything else I can try.

I usually access the forum with Chrome on a Windows 10 laptop, Windows 7 desktop, or Android phone.

I'm aware of this problem, but have not been able to track down the cause. It seems to have crept in with the last update to the software. It seems to be related to https: connections. You can try changing your connection to http: in your address bar as that often seems to remedy the problem.

        Sam,

Also, Admin's advice to me was to reload the page a few times, and sometimes that works.

Alternately, you can click on What's New? or check out the Activity Stream.

I've tried reloading the page a few times and that has worked some of the time. The What's New and activity stream pages are good but I really like the New Posts layout.

Just want to say again, that I'm aware of the problem and am trying to track it down. The fact that it is intermittent doesn't make it easy. Since posting my response yesterday, I've not experienced the problem, but I'm sure it's still lurking.

I only use http:// and not https:// and don't have any problem most of the time. But it does happen and when it does, it happens a lot. Reloading the page is always my solution. Nothing else including waiting even as much as a day works. If the page loads blank once, it will in almost 24 hours, unless I reload several times. Once it stops happening, it stops happening for days.

I suspect that it may be a corrupt cookie, but it hasn't bothered me enough to figure it out. Considering that the OP did try deleting cookies I may be wrong.

                No, I don't think it's cookie related. It's a server-side problem.

                  Admin,

What's the possibility of creating a sort of poll we could use to report when the issues are occurring? That would at least provide a record of dates and times when the intermittent issue is occurring, and would allow you to narrow down the window to search the server's event logs. Just a thought.

All, I have noticed it doesn't happen if I use http (not secure) vs. https (secure).

I'm not sure what happened, but this issue went away a few weeks after starting this thread and hasn't come back on any of my devices. Admin, If you took care of it, thanks. If you didn't, thanks for looking into it.

Yes, I took care of it. It was a caching issue on the server.
