I clicked on “Did you find this post helpful?” with the intention of saying “No” but the option was not available and I am now shown as having found the post helpful. Can I reverse this and, if so, how?
Without the option of saying “No”, how do I rate a post as unhelpful?
The negative is not allowed as part of the rating method you chose. However, if you do not find a post helpful or usable, you can click under the person's name and avatar on the left, where you see the 6-pointed star. When the box opens up, you should be able to choose Approve/Disapprove, and there is a short space to allow a very brief comment.
Hope that helps.

Many thanks, Michael, that is helpful. Maybe the “Did you find this post helpful?” line should be reworded to make it clear you can’t reply in the negative.
There is a thumb up icon adjacent the verbiage - thumb up signifying "Yes". In fact if you hover your the icon with your mouse, the word "Yes" will be displayed.
Originally, there were both a thumbs up and a thumb down icon displayed, so you could rate a post un-helpful. Many people were offended and complained when their posts received negative ratings publicly visible, so, the thumbs down option was removed.
As Michael points out, you can also use the Forum's reputation system to leave positive or negative feedback for post authors. This feedback is seen only by the author of the post, and requires that a reason be entered if leaving negative feedback. Both the helpful answer and reputation ratings contribute to a user's reputation, displayed by the green dots under their username.

That explains why you have no rating, Admin!;-)
Roger, Admin's decision to remove the negative (publicly viewable) thumbs down was a good one (IMHO).
Think with me for a bit: If you have frequented many online forums, you'll find this forum is probably one of the most positive forums out there. If you have frequented many online forums, you will also discover there is no shortage of trolls who like to join forums, disrupt, harass, cajole, and generally cause distress for their users. They will take any opportunity to denigrate others positive efforts, just to drag them down or because they can.
Because this Forum only allows one to rate each post negatively via the reputation system, the information remains private, and each user (& Admin) has access to only his/her own reputation. By restricting posts in this manner, it removes the public audience Internet trolls so desperately seek, and provides genuine feedback to individual users regarding their posts--privately, not publicly. Also by restricting the number of times one can rate a particular user, it is less possible to artificially bump up a single user's reputation.
Having never used a mouse here, I wonder what you see.
OMG, how on earth did you ever manage to get your 21st century admission card??? LOL There is a world of wonder out there just waiting for mouse hoverers and right clickers to discover.
Thanks Sam, I had no idea such delightful phrases accompanied a green bar hover.
(FYI: "KC9UDX is on a distinguished road." "AllenAnalog is a jewel in the rough.")
Larry is my name; Allen is an organ brand. Allen RMWTHEA.3 with RMI Electra-Piano; Allen 423-C+Gyro; Britson Opus OEM38; Steinway AR Duo-Art 7' grand piano, Mills Violano Virtuoso with MIDI; Hammond 9812H with roll player; Roland E-200; Mason&Hamlin AR Ampico grand piano, Allen ADC-5300-D with MIDI, Allen MADC-2110.
Actually, I have surpassed mousehood; only using touchscreens now. (Not entirely; I use an Amiga 2000 for all my serious home computing). I have regarded both as a necessary evil. In fact, things popping up when "hovering" a mouse has long been a pet peeve of mine.

OK Michael. I’m all in favour of obstructing trolls but less so of pandering to snowflakes. I still think the way it works could and should be made clear at the point of giving a rating. I didn’t even recognise the Thumbs Up; thought it was a head and shoulders!
Why do some posts/threads not have the option of “Did you find this post helpful?” ?
Roger,
I think it's addressed in the thread I linked previously, but in short, any thread in the Blower Room section of the Forum does not allow helpful post ratings.
Hope that helps.
Michael

I can’t see it, but not to worry. It’s not only Blower Room that doesn’t allow helpful post ratings - this section we’re in now, for example, also appears not to do so.
