Can't upload photos on the new format

I tried to upload and post a photo, but I keep getting shunted to a window that tells me the URL is missing. How do we upload and post photos on this new site format?

...and why can`t site owners leave well enough alone? This site is less attractive visually than before, and members seem to have issues. If it wasn`t broke.....

If you read through the 'advance notice' given some time ago by Admin, you'll discover that it very soon would be broke, so the fix was necessary. Just about everything that was possible on the old format is still possible here, but some of it has a new name and a new location, or a different way of doing things. As soon as the 'dust has settled' from the migration to the new format, Admin will be producing some tutorials.

As andyg correctly points out, I posted information concerning this move nearly a month ago and several weeks in advance of actually making it. You can find that information here: https://organforum.com/forums/forum/...ming#post50688

As in the previous version of the Forum there are about a dozen or so alternative color schemes you can chose from if you don't like the default. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the drop-down menu on the left in the footer bar or go to your user settings to change them.

To insert a photo that's on your computer, simply click on the 'camera' icon that's at the top left of the reply box. Navigate your way to where your photo is located on your computer, select it and click 'Upload'. You'll have options to add a caption to your photo and upload more images if you wish. You can also do things the old way by adding a photo as an attachment but this new way is faster and much easier.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Thanks andy and jbird . As Andy says, I'll be authoring some tutorials on using the Forum once I have the opportunity to do so, but I just want to elaborate a bit and add that there are actually three ways to include pictures in your posts:

      1. The toolbar Camera Icon
Clicking this icon reveals a toolbar below the text entry box where you can choose to either upload a photo or choose one from your forum photo album. Your photo album will contain images that you previously uploaded to the Forum. You can add multiple images which can be viewed in a slideshow once your post is submitted. Using this method has the added advantage of tagging your post as one containing photos. Using the Forum filtering options, users can choose to display only those posts containing photos.

      2. The toolbar Attachment Icon
Clicking this icon, the sheet with paper clip, on the right side of the toolbar, permits you to attach photos in the same manner as the previous forum by either uploading them from your desktop or providing a URL to the image on another site. Whereas the Camera Icon limits the file type to those of images, the Attachment Icon permits other file types, such as document types, to be attached to your post. The disadvantage to using the Attachment Icon for images is that your post is not tagged as containing an image, there is no provision for captioning, and multiple images are less convenient to view.

      3. The Advanced Editor
Clicking the Advanced Editor Icon in the reply toolbar reveals the Advanced Editor toolbar. From the there you can select the Insert Image Icon. Once again you can either specify the URL of the image or upload one from your device with the Send To Server button on the Upload tab. The advantage of using the editor is that the image is inserted in the body of your text at the caret location rather than appearing at the bottom of the post.

      Summary
There are three ways of adding images to your posts. The choice is yours.
      • Use the Camera Icon to upload images, caption them, display them in a slideshow, and tag your post as containing images.
      • Use the Attachment Icon to display images as thumbnails and upload images from other sites.
      • Use the Advanced Editor to place your image in the body of your text.

OK, I found the camera icon and the Upload button. The site starts to upload a jpeg, but then I get an error message. I tried reducing the image size, etc...., but nothing worked.

I'm going to need additional information to help. What is the precise wording of the error message? Provide me with the file size and dimensions of the image and I will check into this further.

          Admin,

This could be related to my issue where the filesize was smaller than the limit, but the dimensions exceeded the allowances.

I can't get this to work either in my post, using the photo icon or the paperclip icon. The paperclip method freezes when I select the photo from my gallery. I have to hit the back button to get any response and start all over. The photo icon results in a dead function. No dialogs. Preview shows "Photo 0". The photo is a .jpg. Size is 800x598. It is actually a schematic. I works in this post with the photo icon, but not in the thread where I want it to be attached.

I wonder if my thread has become nonfunctional since the new update. The text of the post I was trying to add the image to has not appeared either. It shows 16 responses, but there are only 15, and the number of pages that display is 2, but they are both the same. The thread is "Baldwin C720T Distortion From 16 Stops."

There is something unexplained occurring when attempting to use the photo or attachment icon to upload a photo to that thread. I'll need to be doing some additional checking to determine a cause of the problem.

I was however able to add an image using the advanced editor option described in post #4 above.

Can't post text in that thread, either. It's kind of scrambled up and nonfunctional. Thanks.

Yes, there's something seriously wrong with that thread. I've taken it offline until I can find a way to repair it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Upon further exploration, it has become clear that photos will not upload, but screenshots will. Why?

What is the file size and the dimensions of the image you're trying to upload?

I tried it again just now with the same image and it went through.
        Working...
