• Sticky post suggestion

We've had a number of threads lately about the way an organ should be left etc. when playing an instrument that is not you're regular one. Some suggestions have been made, which have been considered as traditional (ie. leaving expression pedals at 100% when switching off etc.) that perhaps people that are new into the organ playing world are unaware of.

Might I suggest that we create a sticky post in the "On the Job" forum, that contains a list of "Organist's Etiquette" with stuff that people should when they are visiting organists. Hopefully it will eliminate some of the annoyances, that the us, the permanent organist, finds after someone else has played the instrument.

    Re: Sticky post suggestion

I have never had much luck with notices of any kind posted at or near the organ or even around the church in general. People tell me they did not see the sign, etc. However, this may just be an excuse for actually reading the notice and then choosing to ignore it. The more experience I gain in this area the more I think that my fellow parishioners (and visitors, etc.) belong to the "signs apply to everyone else but not me" club.

Regarding the organ specifically: I never allow anyone to use it without explicitly telling them the rules and making it clear that I am draconian about strict adherence thereto. Thus far I have not been disappointed. Whatever works . . .
