need any kind of help rewiring a wurlitzer tone cabinet 500 or any info at all on it

I know absolutely nothing about this cabinet (it says "tone cabinet 500" on the back and has a Leslie) I am trying to turn it into kind of a combo amp for an acoustic guitar. I pulled out the Leslie and the smaller speakers and would like to use only the 2 12" speaker in the lower half of the cabinet and the amplifier. I need help with the wiring part of the amplifier (which wires I could use for a 1/4" input jack and which for a 1/4" output and if this is even possible) and to know if the signal from a guitar is even usable by the amplifier? I can post more pictures if that would help. If someone knows where a wiring diagram for the amp or cabinet or any kind of service manual for this is that would help too. Thanks!</p>

I installed my own plug for power, removing the 6 pin plug that originally plugged directly into the organ. Brown is hot blue is negative, I guessed which one was which inside the amp

here is the back of the second cabinet plug. Black and green for power, red and orange I assume have to do with the Leslie because they run to the 3 switches in "image 534", small black and yellow I'm assuming are sound inputs from the organ itself. These are what I hope I could connect a 1/4" plug to that would run to a guitar.

This is the back of the cabinet speakers jack. I would assume that this is where I would want to connect an output 1/4" jack to run to some external speakers. I marked with tape the wires that originally ran to the lower speaker cabinet (black and orange) however when I connect the speaker to these wires now with the amp turned on there is no noise that I would expect from the amp (crackling and/or static).</p>

It's sad to see increasingly rare vintage gear like this re-purposed. I think many other forum members may feel the same. While Leslie's are relatively plentiful in comparison, Wurlitzer tone cabinets don't surface very often.</P>


Kenneth, the only source for schematics for your tone cabinet is Morelock's Organ Service. There is precious little information about Wurlitzer's electronic instruments on the internet and none on the Spectratonetone cabinets. Sorry.</P>

[sigh] Another irreplaceable Spectratone bites the dust...How would people feel if I took some vintage '62 Fender Blondies and hooked them up to my Allen's 100W amps??[:S]

What is the model number of your amp? I'm working on a similar 810 and i believe we have the same amp. Model 7042 i believe.
How did you get power to the amp is my first question.</P>

It looks like this thread has been inactive for quite a while, but I figured I'd try posting here before starting a new one.


I just picked up something like this from a guy clearing out his stuff (got it for free). The tag looks identical to the one here, but the cab is different. Slightly larger than my Leslie 25. I has 2 small stationary speakers, 2 12" speakers, and 2 rotating speakers. It's missing one of the front 12" speakers but the wood is in incredible shape. A few scuffs but really looks incredible.

There is no amp in mine. Unfortunately, the guy got it from a friend trying to dump it, so he didn't know anything about it's history.

So, how can I get this up and running? It has an AC plug, and what looks like the remnants of an amp, but won't do anything when I plug it in. It just buzzes quietly.

I was hoping to use it for my Fender Rhodes, if possible. I'll post a picture of what's left inside.

There are two wires in the picture I just posted, one is AC, the other has 6 wires wrapped up. If it makes a difference, the colors on the wires are blue, blue (same color), black, red, green, and yellow (maybe orange). Thanks!

Might sound really cool with a Rhodes, I ran a Wurly piano thru a RA50 Yamaha.
Greg has a similar cabinet on a new thread, his rotates horizontal, yours looks vertical.

No, mine is horizontal too, the picture just got messed up when I uploaded it.

While taking off the back, I realized it doesn't match the rest of the cab. So I've come to the conclusion that it's not a Tone Cab 500, but something else made by Wurlitzer. I have no idea what. Maybe someone here can help?

It has two front facing 12" speakers, two front facing 5" speakers, and two back-to-back rotating 4" speakers. Dimensions are 37.5" H, 31.5" W, 21.5" D.

Here's a picture of the front. Any advice is very much appreciated.

Nope, a guy near me here in California has a bunch of organ things in several storage units. He's trying to get rid of as much as he can, moving I guess. But he has soooo many speakers, and speaker cabs, and empty Leslie cabs (most from solid state Leslies) that he's trying to get people to walk away with anything and everything. Was trying to get me to take an M3 that looked great but didn't have any tubes. But I barely have room for this speaker! haha

Haha yeah, that's what I thought. I was really tempted to get a UHaul and take all I could. But I figured as soon as I filled up all the way, an A-100 would come around, and I wouldn't have space for it.

On your input plug, the yellow with the two resistors hooked to it is the "signal in" (positive) and the skinny black that runs over to the chassis, is the negative "signal in". Don't forget that you will need a preamp to drive it.
The heavy black and green wires are the 110 in
The orange and red are the relay activators

Morelocks will be able to fix you up I bet. Their schematics are great
