• Yamaha FS-50 - fault with Symphonic Chorus - Request for help and advice.

I wonder if you can help me out, I have just purchased a Yamaha FS-50
Electone organ which seems to have a problem related to Symphonic
    Chorus feature.

I have noticed when I select any orchestral
voices they seem to be much quieter by 60-80% when routed via symphonic chorus.

    I am not electronically minded,
but I'm wondering if the problem has arisen as a result of the Organ
being left unplayed and gathering dust for many years before I
purchased it on saturday. Everything else seems to work as expected,
even the powered volume sliders are all fully functional. I had thought
about getting some contact cleaner and spraying internal contacts to
see if this would cure the problem, I am at a loss as what to do, It
might be that I need to get an electronics enginner to take a look. I
would really welcome comments on this.

    Best wishes to all.

Tony, I have just acquired a 405S with some of those features and haven't learned much about them yet. But while I was googling information on the model I found a site (sorry I can't recall any name for the site) where I could download a PDF owners manual. You may have the same result. There are so many controls on these organs I can see where you would be uncertain about the results you are having with experimenting with the stops. You are on the right track in your assumption that many of the organs just haven't been played recently and continuing to play is one of the most helpful things you can do at this point.

There is a Yahoo Electone group. You may wish to turn there for additional help as well. I am working on a repair of some one else's 405 (the reason I made my purchase was to learn more about them) and I received the service manual last week. If you know an electronics engineer I highly recommend you get a service manual and let him go over the organ. It is extremely sophisticated compared to the older organs with whichmost of us hobbyists have "tinkering" experience. But it is a great organ and I know you'll be very happy with it.

Adding a site I just googled for the manuals: http://www.yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/
