My community has been given a Kawai E90 organ, but there is a problem with the volume control. There is virtually no volume at all, with there being no response from the volume pedal,or the expression pedal to use the Kawai term. Can you tell me how to check / repair the fault ?

Re: Kawai Volume control problem
No volume at all could be a symptom of a lot of things, not just the master volume control or the expression pedal (that's the correct term, BTW). Amp of perhaps power supply to amp, could also be a problem. Kawais are usually as reliable as they come, but after 30 years (organ is from 1979) it's getting a little old.

I think you're going to have to open it up and do a little digging. Start by cleaning the master volume control and expression pedal pots and see if that helps. If not, schematics may well be needed. Sad to say, even if you can get them, they'll almost certainly cost more than buying a similar, fully working instrument. Some spares are going to be unavailable now, but at least there are a lot of very standard parts inside.

Whatever you do, don't spend much. The organ just isn't worth it in financial terms.

Let us know how you get on with some basic fault-finding.

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
