  • Internal Speaker Phasing

I've started noticing that I can get the internal speakers on my organ to maintain a phasing beat by holding one pedal note.
If I hold down a minor second somewhere in the bottom octave of the pedals (with 16' Tibia and Diaphone stops selected) until the beat starts and then release the bottom note of the interval (play A and A# then release the A and continue holding the A#), the beat will continue even though I'm only holding one note (the A#).
It doesn't work if I release the top note. It doesn't work on any of the manuals, with any of the pedal reeds, or any of the 8' pedal stops. It also only works for 5 or 6 pairs of notes in the bottom octave. I haven't tried it with different expression levels or with very many other stops.

Has anyone else ever noticed this on an electric organ? Is it unique to internal speaker organs, digital organs, 15" woofers, or something else? Could it be that I need to turn down the bass a bit for the pedal division?

It's not a big issue but I'm curious to know what's going on. I definitely can't be lazy when I play up a chromatic bass line.

I will try to get a recording of it posted.

Edit: Here is a link to the recording

If the lower note of the minor second continues sound when you release it, and I think it has to for the beat to continue, I think you might need to adjust your pedal board alignment. Sounds like the upper note of the pair is holding on the lower note. That's why the beat doesn't continue if you release the upper note first. I'm also going to guess that the problem is isolated to these two notes, and that it exists with 8' and 4' pitches as well, even with no 16' pitches drawn.

Right on the money Admin. Thanks. I thought it was only the 16' flues but I tried the other pedal stops this morning and they did it too. I slid the pedalboard over a bit and it went away. What was strange to me was that beat wouldn't start unless both notes were pressed down together. If I only pushed the upper (or lower) note only the upper (or lower) note sounded. Could it be that once the reed switch is activated it doesn't take as much of a magnetic field to keep it connected?
