  • Allen Celeste Tuning

I finally got a chance to measure the pitches of the stops on my organ and the effect of the Celeste Tuning (CT) tab.
Here are some of the interesting things I learned.
Every stop that was not affected by the CT tab was 1-3 cents sharp.
Every stop that was affected by the CT tab was 2-4 cents flat which changed to 8-12 cents flat if the CT stop was engaged.
The CT tab did not affect the notes at tenor C and below for any stop.
The 16' pedal stops don't change but all of the 8' pedal stops do.
I also found out that the CT tab affected complimentary stops between the Solo and Acc/Gt divisions. So, any stops that the CT tab did not change on the Acc or Gt were changed if they also were on the Solo. (i.e. the Tibias and Vox Humana stops on the Acc/Gt did not change but the Tibias and Vox stops on the Solo did. Additionally, the Clarinet and String stops changed on the Acc/Gt but didn't on the Solo). This makes it possible to make a celeste with any stops shared between the Solo and another division. For example, to make Tibia Celeste, I would select the Tibia 8' on both the Solo and Acc (or Gt), select the CT tab and the Solo to Acc(or Gt) coupler, and then play on the Acc (or Gt). This also makes it so that similar stops on the same division can be used to make some hybrid celestes For example, String and Vox on the Acc or Solo are 5-7 cents apart normally and 12-14 cents apart with the CT engaged. So, engaging the CT with those stops selected changes a mild celeste to a much wilder one.

Caveats: There was some very slight tuning variation in the temperment (note to note) but most of my references were taken at middle C (because it was very consistent across all stops).
I'm guessing that the CT tab affects all of the stops on one half of the TG-6 boards (group A or AA I haven't checked my voicing chart to see which).
