  • Rodgers ROC 5058 Power Amplifiers

I have recently acquired a Rodgers 6 channel power amplifier consisting of TWO modular 3 channel ROC 5058 amplifier boards mounted on an aluminum chasis with a common heat sink in the middle. The unit does not seem to have a power supply section included. I am interested in utilizing this in my Hauptwerk VPO if possible, but am in need of proper hook up information and schematics etc. If anyone knows how to utilize this assembly apart from the organ it originally came with, I would be most grateful for the advice.

    Allen,
    I have been repairing a Rodgers 760 that uses a ROC5058 amp (3 chan).
I looked at the schematics that goes with the 760, and found the following power information.
The amp runs on plus 80vdc that comes from the main power supply. The 80vdc comes from a 25 amp bridge that has a 4-amp power fuse for each channel. There should be a cable from each amp that plugs into the main power supply circuit board. The audio inputs (max 4v p-p) are from preamps going to plug P1. Pins 1,2,3 are each chan, pin 4 is ground. Volume is controlled by the expression pedal via the preamps. Audio output is plug P2. Pins 1,2,3 are each chan, and pin 4 is common. In the organ P2 would go to the speaker cable connection board. I didn’t find information on the output level, but it direct drives Rodgers speakers. There is an option for remote S102 amps.
Depending on board revision, the schematics may not always match your boards, so keep that in mind.
Hope that will get you started. Allan

Hey thanks, I got lucky and acquired the original power supply and transformer for this particular amp, so good to go there. But have some questions about the amp interface panel which contains preamp inputs and speaker outputs. The round 5 pin style input connectors each have pins designated as "relay 1" and "relay 2" in adfition to yyhe preamp signsl. What are the relays for?

That’s great to have the transformer for the supply. It would take modifications to use the supply without the transformer. In case you weren’t aware, there is a local power-on switch on the power supply. That is an over-ride to turn on the supply when the CPU board finds a fault. You will have to add another switch for a remote location power on.
Your question about “relay-1 and relay-2” connections. They provide voltage to close the AC power relay in a remote S102 amplifier. Relay-1 is +12vdc from fuse F10 on the power supply, and Relay-2 is the common ground. They go to the DIN connectors that would connect to a remote amp. On the DIN pin-1 is audio, pin-4 is audio shield, pin-3 is +12vdc relay, pin-5 is relay ground, and pin-2 is not used (no connection). When the console is turned on, all the remote amps would also power up. You could use the DIN outputs to run the S100 amps, but you would need Amphenol connectors at the amp end of the cable. The S100 relays used +15vdc, so might still work. The preamp signals would go to the remote amps.
