• Help replacing phone jack and filter caps on CRB Diamond

    Hi everyone!

I really need your help: I have a CRB Diamond 807 which I really like because it sounds great in my house - and lounge music. But the headphone jack, which is very important since it is the only way I can plug the organ to my mixer, sounds very bad, when I use it there is this "airplane" sound all the time, it's a constant noise. Another problem that occurs, even if I'm using nothing but the build-in speaker, is this 60 Hz humming sound all the time, making my recordings useless in my songs.

I think these two problems is caused by two things: I need to replace the headphone jack and the filter caps.

The jack is very rusty as you can see on this pic, and must be replaced in order to work:

It is the only thing in the entire organ that is rusty or damaged. The cables from the organ is mounted 5 places on the jack socket. Does anyone know where I can buy these sockets, or something like it?

Another problem, which is probably causing the humming 60Hz sound, is the filter caps which must be replaced. But what is the filter caps? I am not sure how to locate them. Is this the filter caps? (thestriped ones with two legs):

Does anyone know where I can buy these filter caps? I don't hope the striped ones are filter caps cuz there are LOTS of them (I'm talking almost 100)

Sorry for all my questions, I just wish my organ worked well.

    Thanks!

I think you're getting your caps mixed up. A constant 60Hz mains hum is probably caused by the filter caps in the power supply, not the small caps in what looks like the oscillators in your photo. From a safety point of view,if you're not surewhatthe filter caps looks like or where they are,I'd say that it isn't a great idea for you to change these yourself. Get a tech to do this, there are lethal voltages involved and if you get things wrong, there is a seriousrisk of blowing up the power supply - and yourself.

And the output from that socket is for headphones. If it's not broken, then I guess that just thatthe ouput just doesn't match your mixer.

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Thanks a lot for your reply! Yes I've heard that filter caps are quite dangerous. I think you're right about letting a tech do it. The problem is that I don't know any instrument techs near my home :-(

The headphone socket has this weird "airplane" sound even if I just use headphones, then I can hear the sound in the headphones. It's the same problem with phones as with my mixer. It is very rusty, I think that's the reason. I just can't find any jack sockets where you can connect 5 cables from the organ (I think it's because the organ has several speakers inside), only 2-4-6 connectors.
