  • Saggy keys

    Hi all

first time post here, having not played for 10 years for to not having space when I moved out of my parents house I've finally got space for my old beloved Electone ME-50 back but the sad news is that my young nephews have been torturing it and a few of the keys no longer spring back to their normal place and just sag so that any pressure at all sounds the note. I was wondering what the proper term for this might be and if anyone could point me in the direction of how to fix it.

    thanks

You'll need to raise the top lid and look at the rear of the keys to see what kind of springs it has. I seem to recall that some Yamaha organs had fairly simple coil springs at the rear ends of the keys, and perhaps some of them have popped out. You can simply use needle-nose pliers and reseat them.

If they are not coil springs, then there could be springs underneath the keys, in which case you may need advice from a Yamaha expert. Good luck restoring that organ. It was surely a good one in its day.

Thanks! Yes I loved playing it. Loving at how much the new electones are, before paying import duty, I don't think I'll ever be able to get a new one.

I'll have a look this weekend and fingers crossed it will be one of the fixable ones!

Good advice from John. It looks like the unit you have is a newer unit, all plastic. I have an E3R that had the springs at the back, as John described in the first scenario. I would carefully disassemble it (usually there would be screws at the bottom of the instrument), and see what kind of springs it has. If you can send us a picture of what the keys removed from the console look like, we may be able to help you more.

        Former: Yamaha E3R
