• Leslie 5U4 Rectifier Tube

Ok... time to harass yall' again.... after much recon and Web scouring I finally found out that my Leslie is of a very early vintage and uses a 5U4 rectifier tube in the back *with some kind of bear trap claw holder securing it*...

My question is .... why isn't this particular tube on later model 47's or other Leslie amps in general.... did they use some kind of solid state recitfier inside the amp or????? And if so.... doesn't that kind of take away from the whole "tube" experience? It would be very interesting to run a full sweep of acoustic far and near field tests using said differences in Leslie amps on the same soundstage.......

Simply put, the type of rectifier does NOT affect the sound like using a solid state amp or tube amp... the rectifier merely converts the incoming AC voltage to DC to be used as needed. No audio goes through it...

The tube locking device are several... some have teeth that grip the base of the tube... have to rock those out gently... while another has a ring with a toggle snap that can be released by a scredriver twist in a small slot in the toggle.

Should mention that one type tube clamp has a flat spring ring that has teeth that dig into the base. Those require rocking and sometimes pushing down on each side with a screwdriver while rocking to release.
