• Tube Substitution for 7199?

Aside from the adapter that allows a 6GH8A tube to be substituted for a 7199, is there another option? All I can find are NOS or used on ebaY and they're a bit pricey, not to mention scarce. I seem to have need of these frequently in the Hammond H-series amplifiers. Thanks in advance for any advice.

A Google search for your question led me to a guitar site: Their answer; "7199 - combination pentode/triode used as a one-tube voltage amp/phase inverter/driver for a pair of output tubes in some Ampeg amplifiers Note: These were once popular, but are now getting rarer and more expensive. There are a number of other pentode/triodes that can be substituted, but the pinouts are different and this will require require rewiring the socket for the tube. Examples are the 6AN8 and the 6U8."

The socket adapter you mention was a round about for the rewiring mentioned. Theater Organs.com used to have a tube link and I think I remember tubes being offered by Organ Service Corporation. Some professional Ebayers are out of site on these rarer tubes. I buy tubes from people who are parting whole organs at a better price on many ocassions. Just let all my Hammond tubes go with the sale of my M103 so I don't think I have any 7199's right now or I'd be glad to help.

Thanks, OR4M. It was just a wild hope I had that someone knew different. I now have two H-series of my own and another that I've been working on for someone else. Each of these organs uses three of the 7199's as pre-amp tubes in the main amp and none of them give areally strongreading on the tester. That translates to some serious $$$ to replace them.

Last month I bought a Wurlitzer 4460 off of ebay and had the seller gut it for me mainly for the 12FQ8 tubes I needed to restore my model 4100 spinet. Buying individual tubes for something like this would have been out of the question for me.
