Have just purchased a D65 (it's a long story) and the Custom Voices do not sound on upper or lower manuals, or I should say they do sound but very very faintly in the background.

Has anyone out there got any ideas for fixing this problem, bearing in mind that I am no technician. I have the Service/Repair Manual for reference if required

This is quite common, I'd guess, as I've come across it several times myself on various organs from this era. It's been discussed here before but I can't recall what the solution was! Contacts on the push buttons and rocker tabs would be the first place to start. Give them a good clean with something like De-Oxit.

One of our Yamaha experts or 'tame' engineers will probably know for sure, but you might also ask on the Yamaha Electone group. I think it's www.electone.com

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
There is a volume slider adjacent the custom voices section - is it pulled all the way down.

In the ensemble section there is a red tab called "custom voices" - is it switched on. In the same section there is a black tab that directs custom voices to the lower keyboard. Also another tab that allows custom voices to sound along with the upper keyboard tone levers.

Remember that using any form of ABC function will override custom voices if used on the lower keyboard.
