When were you in Merida last? The city is growing, almost a million people.
I was there in 1989 and 1990- it was a convenient layover point forseveral business trips, so unfortunately I only got to see the airport.

I'm sure it is quite different by now.

Come on down! It's an easy connection from Houston, only an hour and a half flight to Merida from Houston. Perhaps a member organbuilder/tuner wouldenjoy a working vacation? [;)]

I thought the forummembers would enjoy this website about the historic organs in Oaxaca. I've not been there, but hope to visit later this year.

Update. Tomorrow the truck/container is collecting the organ for shippment to Merida. After months of waiting for a friend that offered to share a container to get hisvisas/papers in order,I decided to go it on my own. The organ (6 huge crates) will travel by truck to Panama City Fla, then by ship to the Port of Progreso, then to my house in Merida Centro. It should be at my front door within a week. Beingin the historic center of the city, trucks aren't alloweduntil after 11:00pm, will have to unload over night. Now ifI can just remember how to put it back to together..........[*-)]

Yes very excited. I was told todaythe container is nowat the dock in Panama City Fla. I have all my import papersin orderandthe Mexican customs broker ready. The ship sails on Monday provided TS Fay doesn't get into the gulf andmake trouble. Other wise it should be in Merida on Thursday or Friday. I'll try to post photos of the unloading at my house.

The organ arrived at my house in MeridaCentro11:00 pm Wed night. Six huge crates, couldn't find the keys to my Hello Kitty Fork Lift, so had to uncrate and unload everything by hand. Me and my three Chicos finished unloadingaround 2:30 am. Now I got organ pipes and pieces everywhere in the house. Anyone know how to put one of these things back together???

That's so very tempting, considering the locale... [:)] Very tempting indeed.

Unfortunately I've just used upamonthof my vacation time and I'm starting to gear up for the fall.

If only things weren't becoming so hectic here... [*-)]

[edit] This won't be nearly as fun, but perhaps we can help you from afar? You took pictures before disassembly, right?

For sure you mustknow what order the pipes go in... so what is the most challenging thing for you at the moment?

Re: Need help to dismantle small pipe organ in Rome NY

Soubasse, Thanks for considering coming down to help with the organ. Any online helpoffered by forum members would really be appreciated.Yes, I took lots of photos as we disassembled the organ and I fell good that I can put everything backtogether. Myfirst concern is getting the blower motor working. I'm hopingto find someone locally to rebuild the motor. Can anyone tell me about this motor, it's marked BOB Coleman Street Derby? Next I need to determine if the organ needs new leather. If so, can I do this or is this something strictly for the professionals? And once it's all together, I'll need a tuner, scary to think what this Merida heat and humidity is going to do to it. I'm trying to find out who tunes and maintainsthe organ at the Cathedral. I heard that for years a Swedish man living in Merida tuned the organ, but he died. I'm guessing someone from Mexico City nowtunes it. Funny thing, thecarpenter thats been working in my kitchen, says when he was a young skinny kid, he helped the organist every Sundayand whenever there was a problem, he was sent climbing inside the organ to make repairs. So he might be of help to me. My electrician will beat my house on Monday, he thinks he knows someone that can repair the motor. I'll report back to the forum after that. My carpenter also told methat all the pipe organs that were in other churchs around the city have all been discarded. No one can tell me of another pipe organ in Merida. Sad to think considering the wealth Merida had and it closeties with Spain and Europe, there must have been very nice organs here at one time.

I'm now ready to begin putting the organ together. At last wecompleted painting the 18ft ceiling plaster details in the room where the organ will reside. The motor for the blower has been repaired, was very minor, a small shard of metal was causing problems and it needed a new electric cable. Even luckier, I have met and made friends with an organist, an American living in Merida for 20 years, that has kindlyoffered to help with the installation and tunning. Also, he is a member of the Mexican guild of organist and knows organists and techs in Mexico City should we need help.

Can someone advise me how bestto clean the dust coveredwooden pipes and other wooden parts of the organ? My first reactionwas tograb granny'sOld English furniture oil. Good idea, bad idea? Or clean everything with a damp cloth?

After searching three months, finally found the battery charger forthe digitalcamera, will post photos soon.

oh...regards cleaning wood pipes: I advice a simple damp cloth. Be very careful that if there are any stamped markings that you don't wash them away.

Also while you have the pipes in this form, if the mouths look to be full of debris unscrew them and clean them out now.

same on metal pipes: we just used a damp cloth with water.
