• More organ help

I've gotten close to finishing my little one rank baby, but I've run across some more questions.

First, I'm in need of a blower. I've heard a lot of good things about these Koala blowers, but I'm not sure which model I'd need. All I have right now is a single 85 note rank, voiced on 4" of wind. I'm not sure what static pressure or cfm rating I'd need.

Also, I need a rebushing kit for my keyboard, the keys wobble all over the place. I've looked on Google and whatnot, and haven't really found anything. I was wondering if anyone hear had any good experiences with anything.

Of course, I'm more than happy for any advice anyone can give.

At 4" wind pressure, an average 61 note stop consumes 54 cubic feet per minute. If the stop is 85 notes, then double the consumption: 108 CFM. A 1/4 HP organ blower will supply enough wind for four 61 note stops, or two 85 note stops. That's enough wind for an 85 note stop, plus one 16' pedal stop, with some reserve wind if you add coupling and want to play full organ at 16 - 8 - 4.

You can buy a small 125 volt AC organ blower on e-bay quite often. Also, check out Theatre Organ Home Page.com, classified ads. The higher horse power rating you go, the more noisy the wind will be at your reservoir valve. If you are looking for a static wind spec....you only need to be sure the static wind pressure of the blower is one or two inches above the regulated pressure you need for the stop. (6" static pressure would be fine).

Your best bet for sloppy key bushings would be to take your keys to a piano technician, and have him re-bush the pivots and guides. If your keyboard is still removable, take the whole assembly to him so the felts are fitted to the pins, without having to guess at the proper thickness.

Thanks for the reply, Jay999. I've found a nice blower: 1/2hp, 6.5" static pressure, and almost 500cfm. (It was a nice price, too.) Now I just need a reservoir, but I think I know someone in North Carolina that has an entire attack full of parts like that.

As for the keyboards, I was really hoping for some do-it-yourself solution. Although I could still remove the manual, and take it to someone, it's something I should probably learn how to do anyway. (From what I've read, it's really easy to put in too much felt or glue, and mess them up. But I have a second manual I can practice my technique on.)
