• Cutting A Chest

I have an ep single chest of 61 notes that is too long to fit where I need to place it. (This is being used for a trumpet rank)

I have heard about people cutting single chests into two chests. I have a small one someone did many years ago and it works great.

I know the cut would have to be clean and square and I would have to be able to seal up the ends.

Also the second chest would require wind intake (but I could link the two together with a flange and duct)

and the wiring would be in two sets.

    Any advice?

I think it will all depend on how the reed is racked. If the reed is racked by an angle brace I would cut the chest (carefully!) at the first pouch board past the rack. That way you will be able to reuse the exsiting rack and not have to worry about collapsing reeds.

Generally, I would recommend against it unless you truly know what you are getting into. If it has electromechanical action, (D.E.) you have some latitude , if not, you should be careful to avoid channels drilled in the table, etc.

Cuts should be as square and straight as you can make them if you hope to seal up the ends.
