• Marr / Colton 5 Rank Unit Pipe Organ

I rescued a Marr / Colton 5 Rank Unit Theater Pipe Organ from a defunct church in Beech Creek, PA. The organ was initially purchased and installed in the Palace Theater in Johnsonburg, PA. It is advertised and for sale at www.theatreorgans.com. Click on the "Classifed ads." Then enter "Knauss" in the search box for "Name of Person Placing the Ad." Then click on the hyperlink for the organ. This organ is currently installed in a climate-controlled insulated chamber that is completely portable. It needs a good home and I'd gladly sell it for a little less than I paid for it.

I also own a Wicks Sonatina #1 (Fuga Deluxe) #1317. Since August, I've completely restored the cabinet, wind chest, pedal clavier, bench, and built a platform supported by ball bearing caster rollers. Recently purchased an original Wicks tremolo to replace the one that is missing. I need to build a blower box for it and am in need of an original diagram. Is there anyone out there with an original Wicks diagram for a blower mechanism for 3 ranks with 16' brass Bourdon reeds that operates at 4" of wind pressure? Also, the 14 volt rectifier is gone and I have no idea of how it should be wired for positive and negative current within the organ.

I have a Sonatina, with the little blower box, but no diagrams. Wicks probably has them, don't know if they would give them up. If' you're near the Pacific NW you can have a look at mine. I could probably talk you thru the rectifier part, I put mine together.

I contacted Wicks for an original diagram. They have none in the vaults. Yes, please, I'd like help with the rectifier. If you have an original Wicks blower, could you take pictures of it inside and out and send to me at "[email protected]"? Dave

So, for Dave K with the Wicks Sonatina here's a picture of the wiring blocks onmy Sonatina. The upper blockhas one wire from the rectifier, and then the 2 terminations from the pedal rank wire looms. The lower has the other rectifier wire, then the termination from the manual looms, the termination of the free reeds, the termination from the add on bourdon octave, and one more termination coming from behind that I cannot remember unfortunately. Anyway I did this with help from an organ tech and we got it on the first try. Hopefully someone here can verify the scheme in real terms, I'm just an amateur.

            Hope it helps.

Thanks, Jesse. I've printed your picture for my records. I really appreciate your help. Now I'm on to building a blower reservoir similar to the picture your sent previously. Would you mind taking a picture straight down into the box for me so I can see how the air regulator valve is made? Currently I've been restoring an original Wicks tremolo I bought on Ebay from Michael in Kalamazoo, MI. Where exactly does a tremolo hook into the 6 inch air supply going to the wind chest?

Hi Dave, I replied from my phone, I don't think it went through, so I'll do it again here. I'll take better pictures of the blower tomorrow. The tremolo hooks up to the blower box on a 2.5" flange, it's right next to the 6" flange for the windchest. Mine doesn't need restoration, butI could take the motor out of mine and send you the box if you want to fabricate a few more boxes with regulator curtains, (I'm happy to pay you) You could dismantle mine and make yourselfsomeand make me 2.(I need one for the organ and one for the offset chest) I don't think the original would go back together very well, its from 1936. If you're not into the extra work I understand.

I have a question for you, since you have been working with reed organs for a long time.I have an old Spencer Organblo from 1919, with a new motor in it. It's for a suction reed organ, I took it apart thinking I could reverse the fan and get pressure, It won't work. Suction both ways. The 'fan' is a circular thing, like a housing with little blades sandwiched between the 2 main pieces. Are there pressure units like this? If so, I'd love to find one and make it into a pressure blower instead of a suction blower. If I remember right the fan blade thing has a 1/2 mounting hole.

Hi Dave, here's some pictures of the blower. You can click on them and enlarge them, also can go here: http://home.comcast.net/~steve.malone/site/?/photos/I added them there also. It's a little more complicated than I thought now that I take a closer look at it;; if you need more details we can talk on the phone. Hope this helps.
