• Schantz Organ Bench

I please have a question for someone familiar with the Schantz adjustable bench from the early 1970's. We have one of these benches and the mechanism works as new and the bench is in perfect aesthetic condition. However, it has become somewhat loose and creaky. I have reinforced the connection of the foot rest and this has helped, but the bench still creaks from side to side slightly when the organists slide on and off. Has anyone on this Forum had personal experience with how to remedy this? I hesitate to brace the bench in an unattractive manner. I am considering some kind of subtle "L" brackets where the bottom of the "seat" portion connects to thesides. Does this sound like a good idea?

    Thankyou!

I would actually consider bracing it with some small wooden triangles, shoot screws and wood glue. Have you contacted Schantz about this, they might be able to help, or ask your tech. I wish I could be of more help, but I am unfamiliar with this particular type of bench.

Thank you, Austin, for your helpful attitude! You are almost reading my mind. The response I am looking for is something like this:

"I have been in the pipe organ business for 50 years and have taken the creaking out of many benches, including the exact Schantz bench you describe. Here is how I did it . . . "

      It never hurts to ask.

Yes, we have more than one good technician, depending on the situation. And I can see at least one common-sense approach to this bench problem. But I would very much prefer to hear from someone on this Forum who has corrected thissame problem on this same bench in a minimally invasive cosmetic manner. Said person may not exist here, but if I never ask I will never know.

          Please wish me luck.
