Re: new pipe organ in the french style

It looks like a very nice instrument, but I note that there is a lot of borrowing/extension. In reality, if my count is correct, there are only 22 ranks in that organ, though several have extensions:6 in the Grande Orgue; 10 in the Recit Expressif; none in the Positif (all borrowed); and 6 in the Pedale. That, of course, is not necessarily a bad thing, but it does make the Stop List look a lot more impressive than is reality. I'm not enough of an organist to know if that scheme of rank usage is a good one--I'll leave that determination to experts such as Soubasse32 and others here. (Note: I only counted the Fourniture II-IV as 2 ranks.)

What a delightful little organ and what a lovely console! They probably did this for well under $500,000. If the same stops were all straight, the cost could have been $1 million. And this may not a be a large church.

My only caveat is that such designs should come with a laminated chart that tells the organist(s) exactly how the stops are borrowed and distributed. Then the instrument may be used to maximum versatile effect without accidentally overdoing it.

Amen! I cannot even describe how many instruments I have played, and to my dismay, have stumbled upon pitch drop-out from unification!

I rather like the neat little organ Gluck put in the chapel at First Pres. in New York. It has a lot of character (amidst the unification [:O]).

Love the look of that organ. All that nice wood. No plastic in sight! [:D]

Under $500,000? You couldn't even buy a RubensteinR-371 grand piano for that amount.
