Anyone have updates on the instrument going into the Strand theater? Think the Atlanta ATOS is heading that project up, but there's nothing on their web site.

Been working on an organ just off the Marietta square for a couple of months...so I've seen lots of work going on at the theatre. The countyhas bought the theatre. The thing will be completely rebuilt into a small performing arts venue. There is lots of discussion going on about a 4 manual, 20 or more rank theatre organ going in. The stops are being discussed and advised by an individual organ builder in the Atlanta area. Reason for the theatre organ....(1) one of the directors of the theatre restoration is also a member of the Atlanta ATOS chapter, and plays a lot of silent films within the southeast. (2) The Atlanta ATOS chapter needs a functioning theatre pipe organ for a meeting place. Even theatre organ club members get tired of hearing home installed Allens, Rodgers, etc., and the owners of those organs get equally tired of cleaning up after a hundred people have tromped through their pristine houses for a chapter meeting!

The little Strand Theatre could not afford to be self supporting as a movie house, and closed many years ago. The owners of the theatre have rented it out to several different tenants over the years, and spent very little money on keeping it up. Consequently, several million dollars are involved in the purchase and restoration of the theatre.

When it's done....hey! .....It will be a real jewel in the Marietta Square. I'm very much looking forward to having a theatre organ so close to where I live...I hope the management will let me play it once in awhile.

I've been following the renewal of the theater in the papers. Glad to know the organ's still in planning. I'd heard it recently had to be moved from it's storage, but is actually nearer the theater now. Hope you'll get to play too! I'd love to join the AATOS, but don't usually have Sunday afternoons free. Thanks for the info.
