Do you lose the organs original sounds if you install or use Hauptwerk?

On an organ with MIDI you should be able to keep both. Without MIDI it becomes harder but technically possible for most instruments. There may be exceptions and different amounts of technical skill may be needed. But as a general answer, Yes.

Thank you! I have been offered a Yamaha HX1. Someone bought one that was included in a storage unit sale. He has no idea what to do with it or even how to turn it on. I want it for the synth settings (DX7 sounds) The organ has all of the original equipment including the sound disc/ player, bench, pedals and two Yamaha tower speakers. Since, that organ is MIDI capable I'm guessing it should be fine... I won't know until I actually bring it home and get a chance to play around with it. I'm going to get it this week. I've never used Hauptwerk. Just wanted to make sure that if I couldn't get that part up and running there might be a good chance the factory settings were still intact. I guess I'll know when I hit the reset button. It's FREE. So, if nothing else it will just cost me a little gas!

Thanks and thank you for your response- John

Oh well if it's free and you're happy to pick it up, I say go for it and see what you have :->
HX1 with pedalboard makes a great compact two manual organ to drive Hauptwerk, jOrgan etc... You could emulate lots and lots of different organs then.
