  • Allen TH217 Price

I was hoping to buy an Allen TH217. Prices are a secret, so while waiting to hear from a dealer, I was imagining the new organ would cost about as much as my Subaru and was planning how I would finance it. The price came back as $52,0000, enough for two Subarus! Very discouraging.

New Allen organs are priced in the stratosphere. I strongly encourage anyone buying an organ for personal use to look at used instruments. MDS Theatre III organs are often for sale for under $10,000--this organ was over $30,000 new, and it's current version is priced at over $60,000 if I remember right.

You can see why so many organists consider Hauptwerk or other virtual organ solutions.

Isn't the TH217 from the early to mid 1970's? We had to give awy my mother's TH236 last year.

The TH217 is a current model. 2-manual, moving stop tablet, AGO pedals.

You might be thinking of a Model 436 which was a theatre organ model from circa 1979. I can't find reference to a model TH236.

Hanek: I don't know where you are located, but here is an MDS Theatre III for about $6,000: http://barton.theatreorgans.com/selectedad.asp?ID=24003

That's a lot of organ for that amount of money.

I just saw that the J Nelson site (northern California dealer for Allen) is expecting an MDS Theatre III and an Allen Q-211 to become available in during April (used instruments). This dealer tends to have fairly reasonable prices on their used instruments.

You're right, the 1979 model MOS-1 model. It was like this one, but had a wooden music desk: http://organforum.com/gallery/displa..._display_media

I have an opportunity to pick up what the seller thinks is a TH217 (I'm not convinced) for $100 not far from here, needs an amp which is no big deal for me. Is that a decent price?

See my comment on your other thread. Definitely not a TH217. Much older.
