  • Help in identifying a piece of organ music

I would like to enlist help to identify a piece of music. I heard it only once, when I was a boy, it was played by the organist at the end of mass and it went something like this:

It was played on the organ but I don't know if it was originally written for that instrument. To me it sounds like first half of the 20th century but I can't be sure, and it was so long ago that I heard this tune and memorized it that I can't be sure I have it right.

Can you help me identify which piece of music this is and who is the author?

    Thanks!

    djt265,

    Welcome to the Forum.

I was just able to play it on the piano, and couldn't identify it from what you wrote. To me, it sounded like some of the nondescript writing some of the Catholic composers were publishing a few decades ago. That said, it might help us help you if you could provide a decade you heard it "when you were a boy." For some of us, that's half a century or more, while for others, it is a few years ago.

Do you have a chordal structure? Phrases (I assume after the dotted 1/2 notes)?

Sorry I couldn't help you further.

Way too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:
    • MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DK / ADC-5400 / ADC-6000 (Symphony) / ADC-8000DKC
    • Lowrey Heritage (DSO-1)
    • 11 Pump Organs, 1 Pipe Organ & 7 Pianos

      Michael:
Thanks for the feedback. I must have heard this piece in the 1970's, if that helps.
I though for a while that it could be by Olivier Messiaen but I went through all his organ works and could not find it in there.
I don't have a chordal structure. Yes, phrases would end after the dotted half notes.
      Thanks,
      DJ.

I pulled up MOSOne on my computer (an ap that uses the keyboard to play notes with sounds as encoded on MOS Tone Cards) and played through it a couple of times. I don't recognize it.

Most of that has a very familiar ring to it -- some popular song?
