  • Flor Peeters 35 Miniatures - tempi?

I'm playing #19 at about crotchet = 80, does that sound right? I can't find a recording anywhere...

I gave it a whirl at my piano. Ignoring the Allegro tempo marking, I thought 60 sounded nice, but that's less than Allegro. When I shifted my brain into Allegro mode, I felt that 92 would have a nice feel to it, though I would want to practice it well enough to articulate it cleanly.

The true tempo for you will depend on registration (F.P. suggests 8.4.2.Mix), acoustics, pipe speech and articulation.

I'd be curious to know if Peeters (1903-1986) would play it faster or slower if he were still alive. My edition is copyright 1947, so he would have been in his early 40s and the Organ Reform Movement, though underway, was not yet complete.

My suggestion would be singing the melody and playing the accompaniment -- an often great guide to the perfect tempo.
