  • Wish me luck!

    Hi folks, I have my first organ exam in several years this evening. It's no biggie, just an assessment to ensure I'm qualified to proceed with next year's tuition. The only kicker is that since I quit my church organ position recently, I've been scrounging practice time all over the place, and I'm perhaps not as well prepared as I would normally be. That and an increasingly busy workday (in the real world) have made for a difficult year. Anyway, send on your positive organ playing vibes!</p>

    FWIW, here's the programme:
    </p>

    Buxtehude Praeludium in D minor, BuxWV 140
    Nun bitten wir den heiligen Geist, BuxWV 208</p>

    J.S. Bach Prelude in G major, BWV 541</p>

    Bourgeois Serenade for Organ</p>

    Vierne Finale from Symphony no. 1
    </p>

          I've been wanting to get the BourgeoisSerenade for years...never got around to ordering it.</P>

          I also have been wanting his Variations on a Theme by Herbert Howells...</P>

          Good luck on your exam - I'm sure you'll do fine. [:)]</P>

            Thanks everyone.</p>

            It kicks off an hour from now, so I'd want to be getting into character. Enough computer nerdiness, time for organ nerdiness instead.

              Well, it all went fine I think. As usual, the bits I was worried about turned out okay, but there were one or two flubs in entirely new places that have never posed any problems before. I wish I could get over that issue.</p>

              The organ itself is on the small side (!) and with a VERY light and sensitive tracker touch. It's great for expressive playing, but ruthlessly revealing. As you can imagine, the Vierne was fun. Here's the spec:</p><table width="100%"><tbody><tr><th align="left">Pedal</th>
              <th align="left">Great</th>
              <th align="left">Choir</th>
              <th align="left">
              </th>
              </tr>
              <tr>
              <td>Bourdon 16</td>
              <td>Rohrflute 8</td>
              <td>Stopped diapason 8</td>
              <td>Great to pedal</td>
              </tr>
              <tr>
              <td>Principal 8</td>
              <td>Principal 4</td>
              <td>Chimney flute 4</td>
              <td>Choir to pedal</td>
              </tr>
              <tr>
              <td>Choral bass 4</td>
              <td>Nazard 2 2/3</td>
              <td>Principal 2</td>
              <td>Choir to great</td>

              <tr>

              </tr>
              <tr>
              <td>
              </td>
              <td><table width="100%"><tbody><tr><td>Mixture III</td><td>
              </td></tr></tbody></table></td>
              <td>

              </td></tr></tbody></table>

              There's no Swell box.</p>

              Anyway, thanks for all the good wishes!</p>

                Re: Wish me luck!

                I hope it's not incredibly bad form to toot my own Trompette en chamade, but I've just found out that on the back of the assessment, I have been awarded a scholarship for next year's tuition. I'm pretty happy!
