  • Pietro and Constantino Yon

Does anybody know if anyone has published Pietro Yon's Advent Suite? All I can find is the pdf on IMSLP, which is great, but at some point I'll want something slightly more sturdy.

Pietro's brother, Constantino Yon, was the organist at the Church of Saint Vincent Ferrer, in NYC, on this monster of an organ: http://www.nycago.org/Organs/NYC/htm....html#Balbiani

Any idea where I can find any of his compositions? Even just a listing or audio recording, I can't find anything he composed, but I know he did.

    Grassie!
    Organs I play regularly:
    -Estey Opus 3103, II/8 (1938)
    -Schantz Opus 2145/2224, IV/86 (1998-2002)

For a list of other organs I've played, see my bio.

You are welcome. I'm curious to see what others have to say about Constantino. He seems to be in the shadows while his younger brother got all the limelight. A 1937 issue of Caecilia has a bunch of articles on Pietro and one small column on his brother (with a picture!) on page 307 (page 27 of the pdf). https://media.musicasacra.com/public...07_1937_08.pdf

You may also be interested in looking into the music of Norman Dello Joio, who was Pietro Yon's godson. Norman studied organ with Pietro. While he did not write a great deal of organ music, what he did write is first rate. I particularly like his Five Lyric Pieces for the Young Organist which he transcribed from his piano Diversions. Both are published by E.B. Marks.

Unfortunately I was not able to find an organ recording of Dello Joio's setting of In Dulci Jubilo from Five Lyric Pieces for the Young Organist. However, I did find a piano version in the following link:

While Five Lyric Pieces... may be out of print, I have seen used copies from time to time. This particular setting is also in the Christmas volume of the Augsburg Organ Library.
