  • Organ music on internet radio - organ friendly classical music stations

I have been a long time listener of WFMT, Chicago. Unfortunately, the station is quite allergic to organ music played on the organ. Organ music on the organ is limited to Widor's Toccata and Handel Organ Concertos and not much else. Any other organ music is typically played in transcription on piano, guitar, orchestra - anything but the organ. They do broadcast 'With Heart and Voice' however Pipedreams was dropped.

Are there any recommended 24 hour classical radio stations friendly to the organ? I do listen to the 24 hour Bach streaming channel. There's no charge and it's ad-free. The channel regularly plays Bach's organ music, but was wondering what else is out there.

It would be really nice if there were a 24 hour streaming organ channel. The instrument certainly has sufficient literature.

Dude, you rock!!! I knew about the Pipedreams site, but it's just on a show basis. But the first two, AWESOME.

I've obviously lived a sheltered life - Organ Live has been broadcasting since 2003!!!

You can add Positively Baroque to your classical list. Don't forget Contrebombarde representing VPO recordings.

Then there are other streaming services that specialize in Theatre Organ, such as ATOS radio and Hot Pipes and Hammond tracks on LastFM.

Spotify, Amazon Music, etc. all will stream organ music on demand. Can you say "Alexa, play organ music?"

Finally no list would be complete without a mention of YouTube which has vast number of organ videos comprising all genres. Videos from the Scott Brothers are especially well performed, recorded, and presented.

Thanks! That is an all-encompassing list!

I was specifically looking for streaming I could use through my internet radio tuner which feeds into my stereo system (old school, Fisher tube receiver). It supports limited formats - it's good with Organ Live m3u but Positively Baroque doesn't have a supported format :-( Strange, because Positively Baroque is associated with Organ Live.

    Hi George!

Like you, I tired of the main Southern California classic music radio station only playing a few organ compositions in transcription. I had been a contributing member of it until last year when I started directing my monetary support to the Organ Media Foundation, parent org of OrganLive.com that also includes OrganExperience and PositivelyBaroque.

You should ping them to provide m3u support--a donation also wouldn't hurt with your request ; )

    Cheers,
    Jeff

      Hi Jeff,
Thanks. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

It turns out the Organ Media Foundation has yet another channel: Christmas Organlive.

Since the Christmas Organlive url (http://xmas.organlive.com/320) works in my Internet tuner, I tried substituting the same url format for PositivelyBaroque, i.e.:
http://www.positivelybaroque.com/320 instead of http://www.positivelybaroque.com/pb320asx (or any of the other format extensions) and it worked!! Three streaming organ channels!! I'm in organ heaven!! :->

Oh yeah...I had heard the advertisement for Christmas Organlive a few weeks ago and blocked it from my memory as I began being assaulted by Christmas music everywhere else starting in mid-November;). I do like that there is an additional channel of organ music for the season, but for sometime now I've been listening to composers' works I've never heard before. Still, glad tidings to all!!!

This isn't radio, but I've been enjoying the eclectic mix of organ music Piping Up has been presenting.

Piping Up - 30min Organ recitals live-streamed MWF by the organists for the Tabernacle Choir. https://www.youtube.com/c/TheTaberna...eSquare/videos

        Thanks!

Another one is classicalradio.com which has multiple channels with different genres (organ, piano, baroque, etc.) and a premium (for pay) version like organroxx, which eliminates the commercials.
